SEQUOIA Strength Training is a one-on-one and semi-private personal training studio inside the Vestavia Hills city limits, serving Cahaba Heights, Liberty Park, Mountain Brook, Meadowbrook, Homewood, Hoover, and the greater Birmingham area. We open June 2026.

Why Vestavia

What we love about this place.

I did not grow up in Vestavia. My wife and I moved to Birmingham so I could start a Master's at Beeson Divinity School. Halfway through the program our first son was born, and I left Beeson to focus on our growing family and on a passion of mine. Personal Training.

A few years in, I stopped being surprised at how many people in this part of Birmingham are quietly starting over with their bodies in their forties, fifties, sixties. That is most of what I do now. Along the way, my wife and I fell for the place.

Women in perimenopause and post-menopause are a growing share of who trains here.

In the years since, I have coached thousands of sessions with people who live in this part of the city. Busy parents. Professionals squeezing a workout between meetings. Empty-nesters rebuilding after decades away from the gym. Women walking into perimenopause and wanting someone who understands what that actually means for training.

SEQUOIA is the gym I wished existed when I started coaching here. Small enough to know every person by name. Serious enough to actually get them stronger. Built for people who want to be taught.

How we train

Two formats. Both coached the same way.

Every session at SEQUOIA is coached by a real trainer, built on a written program, and scaled to where you are that day. You pick the format that fits your life. We handle the rest.

One-on-one personal training

Private 1:1

One coach, one member, forty-five focused minutes. Every cue, every correction, every progression is yours. Ideal for specific injuries, deeper personalization, or coaching that flexes tightly around a demanding schedule.

Semi-private training

Up to 4 members, 1 coach

Up to four members in a session, each following their own written program, all coached by one coach. Less expensive than one-on-one and brings the small-community accountability that makes people keep showing up.

A short drive from Vestavia Hills High School, Vestavia Country Club, The Summit, Overton Park, and Samford University. If you work downtown and live on the east side of the city, we are on your way home.

Carrying kids, groceries, luggage. Keeping up on a hike. Playing eighteen without fading by the fifteenth hole. We train for the life you actually live, not a sport you do not play.

Coaching for people who want to be taught.

Most of our members have either never lifted seriously or have not set foot in a gym in years. Every lift is coached from the first rep, every session, no exceptions.

Forty-five focused minutes.

No scrolling between sets, no waiting for equipment, no guessing what to do. You show up, your coach is ready, your program is written, you leave stronger.

Small enough to know you.

At most three other members in a semi-private session, or entirely private. Your coach knows your knee, your travel week, the lift you dread, and the one you are secretly proud of.

Where exactly is the gym in Vestavia Hills?

I am out of shape and have not trained in years. Is this for me?

Yes. That describes a large share of our members. Your coach will meet you where you are, coach every movement, and scale the workout so it feels challenging but not crushing. You do not need to be in shape to start. You get in shape by starting.

What is the difference between one-on-one and semi-private?

One-on-one is a single coach focused entirely on you for forty-five minutes. Semi-private is up to four members in one session, each following their own written program, coached by one coach. Both formats are individualized. Semi-private is less expensive and brings the small community that makes people keep showing up.

How long are sessions?

Forty-five minutes, including warmup. Short enough to fit before work or between meetings, long enough to get real work done.

Do you help with nutrition?

Yes. Nutrition guidance comes with every membership. Conversations about real food, how eating is supporting your training, and the small changes that actually stick. It's the lane of a trainer rather than a dietitian, so if you ever need a prescriptive meal plan or clinical nutrition advice, we'll happily point you to someone who does that work. For most people, this is more than enough.

Do I need to bring anything?

Shoes you can train in. We provide everything else.

When does SEQUOIA open?

June 2026. Founding memberships are being reserved now. Getting on the list does not commit you to anything.
